The programme aims to achieve the following outcomes:
•21st Century Skills.
Collaboration - SST and XSS students are tasked to work together as a team of 6 SST and 6 XSS students.
Communication - SST and XSS students need to communicate using either English or Mandarin, to achieve the project outcomes.
Creative Thinking - SST and XSS students need to come up with the solutions to achieve their goals e.g. How to navigate to the location, how to collect the water samples
Critical Thinking - SST and XSS students need to learn how to use the equipment and analyse the data
•Experiential Learning
The ABC project (SST chapter) is organised around the Sungei Ulu Pandan, where the river is used as an outdoor classroom for SST students. Lessons will be designed to allow students opportunities in Experiential Learning.
•Bilingual & Biculturalism
SST and XSS students have different cultural backgrounds, although all the participants are of the Chinese descent. They need to learn to work with each other effectively to achieve the desired outcomes.
•Science,Technology & Environment
Science - Scientific tools such as data logger sensors are used to determine the concentration of the various ions present in the water
Technology - Technology tools such as Google Earth Pro, Google Map, Google Documents are used throughout the activity. Moreover, handphones are used as a communication tool between the teacher and the students.
Environment - Sungei Ulu Pandan is an important aspect of the environment around SST. Hence, determining the parameters provided an important understanding of the environment, which will indirectly encourage the use of Scientific method for environmental conservation.
